In 1982, after a long sequence of controversial events in An Comhdhail, Cumann Rince Náisiúnta                                      (now known as CRN) was founded by a group of 12 teachers and was founded on a very strong set of Principles. We believed that all teachers should be protected and that all dancers should also be afforded the right to dance.  CRN dancers commenced dancing competitions in An Comhdháil who had an open platform at the launch of CRN. As a result An Comhdhail closed theirs. CRN then set up their own competitions operating the Open platform and to this day CRN successfully operates the Open Platform where any dancer from any teacher, from any part of the world or any organisation can successfully compete. We set about laying down our Constitution and Rules for competitions.
